Work to repair slip roads on the A47 near Norwich

Amey are working on behalf of Highways England to repair the road surface on the A47 to the south west of Norwich, at the Thickthorn junction with the A11.

Subject to weather conditions, they plan to complete this work between Monday 21 November and Friday 9 December, working between 20:00 and 06:00 on weekdays only. They apologise for any delays this may create for your residents, parishioners and staff.

To keep drivers a safe distance from the works, they will have to close the A47 at the junction while they are working. This will be on the A47 eastbound from Monday 21 to Tuesday 29 November and westbound from Tuesday 29 November to Friday 9 December.

There will be a clearly signed diversion route in place while we are working. Drivers heading eastbound while we are working before Thickthorn Interchange will:

  • Leave the A47 at Longwater, taking the A1074, then;
  • Take the A140 Norwich Ring Road to re-join the A47 at Thickthorn.

Drivers who miss the Longwater diversion will turn around at the B1108 Watton Road Interchange to head back to Longwater.

When we are working after Thickthorn Interchange, drivers will:

  • Exit at the roundabout, taking the A11, then;
  • Take the A140 Norwich Road to re-join the A47 at the A140 Ipswich Road Interchange.

Drivers heading westbound will follow the diversion (for after the Thickthorn Interchange) in reverse. When we are working beneath the interchange, drivers will have to exit and re-join on the far side of the work.

Given the length of the diversion route, they would advise leaving extra time to complete your journey.

They will do their utmost to complete the works as quickly as possible, avoiding disturbance and keeping noise to a minimum.
